Obituary

Albert “Al” J. DeConinck, Jr., 81, Kewanee, died Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria. Al was born October 21, 1941, in Kewanee, the son of Albert J., Sr. and Patricia (Boss) DeConinck. Al attended and graduated from Kewanee High School with the class of 1959. Al married the love of his life, Karen Poland on June 16, 1966, in Geneseo; she survives.

Al is also survived by one daughter, Barbara (Mark) Bowman, Geneseo; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Katie (Bud) Johnson, and Patricia (Frank) Schambaugh.

Al served in the National Guard in Virginia. Right after high school he worked for the state doing construction. Al worked in quality control for Hyster for 44 years. He met his wonderful wife there. They had 57 years of fun spontaneous adventures. Al had a fun sense of humor and was quick witted. Al enjoyed fishing with his family, and hunting deer, pheasant and quail. Karen and Al enjoyed going to the casino together. Al also enjoyed socializing with friends and spending time with family. He was a member of Saint John Paul II Parish, the Moose and the Elk’s Clubs.

Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, Monday, August 14, 2023, at Golnick-Schueneman Funeral Home. Memorial Services will be at 10:00 am, Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at the funeral home. Deacon Martin VanMeltebeck and Pastor Andrew Christman will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Military Rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council.
