Alice Bartlett Obituary

Alice Mary (Moore) Bartlett, 89, of Springfield, IL, formerly of Kewanee, passed away peacefully the afternoon of June 1, 2023. Alice was born northeast of Buda, IL on October 8, 1933 to Emerson and Gladys (Stroud) Moore. She attended Pleasant Grove Grade School and Buda High School and later earned her BA and MA from Western Illinois University.

After meeting the love of her life, Wayne (Bill) William Bartlett, Bill and Alice were married on December 12, 1952 at the Chapel at Camp Pendleton, California. They lived in California, Texas, Griggsville, IL, and Stronghurst, IL prior to settling in Kewanee, IL. She taught in Stronghurst for two years and then taught first grade at Kewanee’s Belle Alexander until retirement. She lived in Kewanee, IL for 53 years before moving to Springfield, IL to be closer to family.

Alice had many interests including wintering in Florida, researching genealogy, and flower gardening. Also, Alice was devoted to her church and friendship with fellow teachers and genealogy-lovers. She was a member of the Kewanee First United Methodist Church, associate member of Rochester Methodist Church, the UMW, the DAR, ADK, Kewanee Historical Society, Henry County Genealogical Society, Illinois Retired Teachers Association, and the Belle Alexander supper group. She was especially proud to have discovered an ancestor who sailed on the Mayflower.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Christine (Russell) Humphreys of Rochester, IL; son-in-law, Stephen Green of Charleston, IL; grandchildren, Danielle (Ian) Hunt of Springfield, IL; and their children, Kaitlyn and Liam, Nicole Weller of Rochester, IL, Matthew Green of Charleston, IL, Melinda (John) Geyer of Bettendorf, IA; and their children, Abigail and Josephine; brothers, Kevin (Jerry) Moore of Princeton, IL, and Larry Moore and Carole Novak of Buda, IL; sisters, Erna (Rod) Miller of Mineral, IL, Linda (Claude) Jacobs of Springfield, IL; sister-in-law, Karen (Harry) White of Perry, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne Bartlett; daughter, Debra (Bartlett) Green; great granddaughter, Regan Hunt; AFS daughter, Ana Phillilps; brother, Emerson Moore, Jr.; sister-in-law, Irene Moore; sister-in-law, Donna Johnson Rieger; brother-in-law, Bud Johnson; brother-in-law, Donald Bartlett; and grandson-in-law, Michael Weller.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 8 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, at Golnick-Schueneman Funeral Home in Kewanee, IL. The funeral services will be held Friday June 9 at 10:00 am at Kewanee First United Methodist Church. Donna Boardman will officiate. Burial will be in Hopeland Cemetery in Buda, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to Kewanee First United Methodist Church, Rochester United Methodist Church, or Hopeland Cemetery.
