Bert J. Hill

Bert J. Hill, 85, of Poplar Bluff, MO, formerly of Fort Meyers, FL and Kewanee, IL, died Friday, March 3, 2023, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, MO. Bert was born December 30, 1937, in Chapin, IL, the son of Bert, Sr. and Agnes (Rickey) Hill. Bert married Sandra VanDamme; she preceded him in death on April 19, 1983.

Bert is survived by three daughters, Carrie Calhoun, Poplar Bluff, Trina (Scott) McAllister, Poplar Bluff, Treasa (John) Newlun, Cuba, IL; eleven grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. Bert was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Bert Joe; and a sister, Sandy Dykeman.

Bert served in the US Army/Airforce. He worked for John Deere and in the Rock Island Foundry; retiring in 1990. Bert enjoyed collecting guns and coins. He also enjoyed country dancing. Bert loved spending time with his family; especially his great grandchildren, who he affectionally called, “the wee ones”.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 am, Thursday, March 9, 2023, at Pleasant View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, American Cancer Society, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
