Betty R. Brown

Betty R. Brown, 100, of Kewanee, died Sunday, December 13, 2020 at Kewanee Care. Betty was born November 18, 1920 in Kewanee, the daughter of Marion "Lloyd" and Catherine (Giles) Hay. She graduated from Kewanee High School with the class of 1938. Betty married Kenneth Brown on October 3, 1942 in Kewanee; he preceded her in death on June 24, 1997.Betty is survived by three daughters, Catherine Mitchell, Forney, TX, Barbara (Charles) Klein, Kewanee, and Delores Brown, Kewanee; four grandchildren, Amber Klein, William (Melissa) Mitchell, Brett Klein, Danial (Stephanie) Mitchell; eight great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth; daughter, Marian Brown; brothers, Giles Hay, Shriver Hay; sisters, Rowena Gates, Margaret Vereecke, Maurine Reig-Jones, and Beverly Cheek.Betty worked as an Art Secretary at the Kewanee High School. She also volunteered at the First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed being near water and spending time at the cabin on the Rock River. She also enjoyed traveling to Corpus Christi with her daughters and grandchildren. She was an avid Cubs fan. She did crossword puzzles, puzzles, and loved playing cards. Betty was a member of the Secret Sewing Society Club. She especially loved spending time with her family.Memorial Services will be at 11:00 am, Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home. Pastor Kevin Drane will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of service on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at the funeral home. Face masks are required and social distancing must be observed. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church.
