Cathleen “Cathy” J. (nee O’Connor) Berglund, 78, died Saturday, March 21, 2026, from complications of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). She was born on August 21, 1947, in Kewanee, the daughter of William K. and Wanda J. (Weaver) O’Connor.
Cathleen is survived by her son, Michael Berglund of Kewanee; her daughter, Rebecca Berglund of Moline; her twin sister, Colleen O’Connor of South Bend, Indiana; her brother, Jeffrey O’Connor of Coal Valley, Illinois; and her sister, Sara O’Connor of St. Louis, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Cathy attended Kewanee High School, graduating with the class of 1965. Cathy graduated from the University of Illinois with honors in 1969, majoring in Secondary Education. During her career in teaching she worked at Franklin School, Visitation School, and Galva High School. In her retirement, she enjoyed substitute teaching in many local schools.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and pets. She was a member of Saint John Paul II Catholic Parish in Kewanee.
The family wishes to express its deepest gratitude to the staff of OSF Holy Family Hospital in Monmouth for its exceptional care of Cathy during her final days.
Rosary Service will be at 5:30 pm, on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at Golnick-Schueneman Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Friday, March 27, 2026, at Saint John Paul II Parish. Father Narcis Katambe will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Henry County Humane Society or Visitation School Foundation. Online condolences may be left for Cathy’s family at www.golnickschuenemanfh.com.
