Clara Jacobson Obituary

Clara H Jacobson, 91 of Kewanee, stepped into Glory, early Friday morning, December 1st, 2023.

Clara was born August 17, 1932, in Birch Tree, Missouri. Clara was the daughter of Robert and Letha (Smith) Hanna. She attended Rockford West High School, graduating with the class of 1951. Soon after that, Clara met Roger D. Jacobson, dated & fell in love and married him a few years later on April 2, 1955, at the Evangelical Free Church in Rockford; he survives.

Clara dearly loved & is survived by her three children, Rogene (John) Brick, Rockford, IL, Ronda (Brooks) Warren, Monee, IL, Steven (Jackie) Jacobson, Dewey, IL; four grandchildren Malachi (Abbey) Brick, Robert Warren, Skye White (formerly Hanna Warren) (Ryan Ballard),Austin Jacobson; three great grandchildren, Maia & Zanna Brick; Ronin Ballard; her youngest sister, Shirley Nolan; and so many precious nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Pauline Campbell; and a brother Floyd Hanna.

Clara worked at Evergreen Memorial Gardens as a secretary/manager. She previously worked for Merle Norman Cosmetics, and started her own business, selling Christian books for Successful Living.

Clara was very active in Christian Women’s Club and served as chairman of their After Five Club in Kewanee, IL. The monthly meetings and activities are documented in the meticulous scrapbooks that she created. Clara faithfully served her church, Kewanee Evangelical Covenant Church, as a board member, choir member, helping with accounting and participating in the hospitality ministry.

Clara was a true Proverbs 31 woman. She loved being a homemaker, wife, and mother, and focused on those in need, finding simple yet creative ways to help them. She was a self-taught seamstress, and became proficient in sewing, knitting, crocheting and copious DIY home projects. Through the years, she was also a ready student, eager to learn & recreate the Norwegian specialty & traditional dishes from her mother-in-law and mastered them all.

Upon her & her husband’s retirement, Clara cherished her time wintering in Lakeland Florida with her husband, Roger. She also enjoyed singing with her community choir there, The Schlamar Singers, for many years.

But beyond all her many talents, accomplishments, and activities, Clara dearly loved & served her Lord Jesus with all her heart. It was her great joy to study, learn & grow closer to her precious Savior, to serve & and lead others to Him. She prayed diligently for her family & friends, and many were touched, encouraged, saved and loved.

Clara longed for the day when she would meet her Lord and Savior and hear Him say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

That day has come!

Visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 9, 2023, at the First Christian Church, Kewanee, IL, with the Celebration of Life following at 11:00 AM. Clara’s oldest grandson, Pastor Malachi Brick will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Feed the Children, (feedthechildren.org)

The family would like to thank Clara’s special roommate, Pat, and the many nurses & CNA’s who loved and compassionately cared for her at the Kewanee Care home.
