Donna J. Schaefer

Donna J. Schaefer, 72, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 10, 2022, at her home. Donna was born December 2, 1949, in Kewanee, the daughter of Joseph Laha and Betty (Gavin) Dunn. She attended Wyoming High School, graduating with the class of 1968. Donna married David P. Schaefer February 19, 1972, in Kewanee; he survives. Donna is also survived by two sons, Damon Schaefer (Veronica Hernandez), San Diego, CA, Dana (Laura) Schaefer, Kewanee; four grandchildren, Laini, Lilian, Reiken, and Nathan Schaefer; a special great granddaughter, Everlee; sister, Patricia Carlson; several nieces and nephews; and a special caregiver and friend, Terri Skiles. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, James Laha. Donna and David met at Harper Wyman in Princeton, where they were both working at the time. Donna was the first licensed daycare provider in Kewanee; she owned and operated Donna's daycare. They also fostered 28 kids. The daycare kids were her greatest enjoyment. She also enjoyed going for long drives, ceramics and crocheting. She loved dancing to country western music and wintering in Tropic Winds RV Park in Harlingen, Texas. Graveside services will be at 10:00 am, Monday, May 2, 2022, at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Deacon Don Schaefer will officiate. Memorials may be made to the University of Iowa Organ Transplant Center.
