Earleen L. Winter

Earleen L. Winter, 91, a resident of Toulon Healthcare, formerly of Kewanee, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at 11:45 p.m. Earleen was born May 25, 1930, in Texarkana, Texas, the daughter of Earl S. Strom and Lottie (Kellar) Strom. She married Eugene A. Winter of West Jersey on October 27, 1949 at the First Baptist Church of Kewanee with Rev. Gordon Vaugh officiating. Survivors include two daughters, Penne Cone' and Bunne (John) Baum of Kewanee. Two grandchildren, Tye Cone' (Sarah VanWassenhove) and Jessica Hand of Kewanee and two great-grandchildren, Sydney Hand and Ben Hand, also of Kewanee. Earleen is preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister, Nedra Polowy, a brother, Earl (Bud) Strom, and a very special niece, Mary Fox. Earleen attended Kewanee schools and Black Hawk East College. She was employed as a beautician for 55 years. An avid bowler for 40 years, she served as officer and treasurer for the Women's Bowling Association, and for 19 years served a treasurer for many different leagues. She bowled in State and National tournaments, with her team taking first place in the state tournament in Decatur in 1986. She was a member of the First Congregational Church SBC in Kewanee where she served as church clerk, deacon, and sang in the choir. Earleen loved flowers and planted new flowers, bushes, window boxes every summer to the dismay of her husband who had to mow around everything. Earleen also enjoyed the annual Strom reunion held each summer at Little John Conservation area in Victoria, Ill. She had many cousins in that area, one in particular was Lois Weedman, her 1st cousin. They would set all day long reminiscing of days gone by. Visitation will be 10:00 - 11:00 am, Wednesday, May 25, 2022. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am, Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, the Rev. Justin Rumley officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery in Kewanee. Memorials may be made to the First Congregational Church.
