Eldon L. McNaught, 91, died, Monday, July 17, 2023, at Alura Senior Living, Edinburg, Texas. Eldon was born November 21, 1931, in Kewanee, the son of Francis “Spike” and Wilma “Cladys” (Schmittler) McNaught. Eldon attended Kewanee High School, graduating with the class of 1950. He married Ernestyne J. Glendenning IV on December 20, 1953; she preceded him in death on November 16, 2016.
Eldon is survived by four children, Diana (Rich) Lewis, Kewanee, Ernestyne ‘Teena” Shreck, Texas, Michael (Dana) McNaught, Joslin, Gracanne Powell, Texas; 13 grandchildren, Rhonda Lewis, Chad (Amy) Lewis, MacKenzee Lewis (Scott Raley), Valerie (Bryan) Schafer, Melissa Shreck, Stephen Anderson, Nicole (Tommy) DePauw, Ben, Andrew and Jennifer Hamby, Ashley McNaught-Wheeler, Michael McNaught, Eric Bjorklund, Kristi Bjorklund (Kyle Warrenfeltz); 22 great grandchildren, Jayna Tracy, Jazmine Anderson, Emma Anderson, Eli Hamby, Isabella Hamby, Benjamin Hamby, Delilah Hamby, Anthony Padilla, Alex Padilla, Jade Shewmake, Justin Padilla, Nova Hamby, Blaise Lewis, Brendon and Marshall Lewis, Bristol Lewis, Matingly Lewis-Raley, Kenna Schafer, Dylan Wheeler, Madison and Ayden Larson, Ember McNaught; and one great-great granddaughter, Amelia. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; grandsons, Shaune Lewis, Ben Hamby; sisters, Cheryl Eilers, Rita Anthony; brother, Jack McNaught; son-in-law, Steve Powell; and his pal, Friendy.
Eldon served in the National Guard and was active in the Auxiliary Coast Guard. Eldon worked for International Harvestor running a Motch and Merryweather Machine, he retired in 1990. He also worked delivering milk, was welder, carpenter, electrician, and fixed electronics. Eldon loved working on their homes and teaching the kids how to do trades. He always found a way to save money. He was a member of the VFW, Kewanee. He was a boy scout and webelos leader. Eldon enjoyed playing card games, especially Pitch and Euchre. He also enjoyed all sorts of yard games, yard darts and volleyball especially. Eldon enjoyed cycling and playing tennis. He and the family enjoyed boating and waterskiing every summer, they also built two go karts and had fun driving them around the neighborhood. He lived in Hampton on the Mississippi and retired in Pharr, Texas.
Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 pm, Friday, August 25, 2023, at Golnick-Schueneman Funeral Home. Memorial Services will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, August 26, 2023, at the funeral home. Pastor John Reside will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Military Rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council.
