Gene R. Emery

Gene R. Emery, 87, of Kewanee, died Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria. Gene was born July 27, 1936, in Kewanee, the son of Ronald O. and Jessie M. (Carroll) Emery. Gene attended Kewanee Schools, graduating with the class of 1954. Gene married Mary Ellen Baumgardner, on July 28, 1956; she preceded him in death on December 8, 1993.

Gene is survived by one daughter, Susan “Susie” Emery, Kewanee; brother, Donald (Beverly) Emery, Blue Springs, MO; two nieces, Brenda (Danny) Fogel-Behm, Grand Rapids, MI, Kathleen (Stan) Remington, South Jordan, Utah; nephew, Ronald Emery, Denver, CO; and several great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two sisters, Bernadine Emery Behm, Sharon Kay Emery; and a nephew, Gary Behm.

After High School, Gene worked at Walworth. Gene later worked as a maintenance machinist at Alcoa, Inc., Bettendorf, retiring in 1998. Gene enjoyed bow fishing for carp, and he made reel lines for bow and arrow. He also enjoyed fishing the canals in Atkinson and Annawan; and snowmobiling around the house. Gene especially enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling to Prairie Du Chein, WI. Gene was a member of 40 & 8 and Giant Goose.
