Gerald "Jerry" D. Blackert, 80, of Sheffield, died Saturday, October 30, 2021, at his home. Jerry was born September 4, 1941, in rural Prophetstown, the son of Vernon L., Sr. and Alice R. (Pratt) Blackert. Jerry attended Annawan Schools. Jerry married Rita S. Faris on September 4, 1965; she preceded him in death on October 13, 2000.Jerry is survived by daughter, Brenda (Bret) Helms, Walnut; grandchildren, Blake, Bryce, and Brooke Helms; and five siblings, Vernon Blackert, Jr., Prophetstown, Ralph (MaryAnn) Blackert, Cambridge, Adrianna Kleckner, Annawan, Walter (Joyce) Blackert, Mineral, Linda Billiet, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Shawn Blackert; sister-in-law, Betty Blackert; and brother-in-law, Donavon Kleckner. Jerry worked at International Harvester for 31 years and worked for VL Blackert Construction before working for IH. Jerry enjoyed woodworking, camping, and horseback riding. He was a NASCAR fan, especially Jeff Gordon. He liked reading western novels; and enjoyed meeting friends at the tavern. He loved spending time with his family; especially his grandchildren. Visitation will be from 12:30 - 1:30 pm, Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 1:30 pm, Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at the funeral home. Pastor Terry Lancaster will officiate. Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Mineral and Gold Fire Department.
