Gerald “Jerry or Bump” L. Bumphrey, 66, of Kewanee, died Thursday, September 28, 2023, at OSF St. Luke’s Medical Center. Jerry was born September 30, 1956, in Kewanee, the son of Clayton and Darlene (Smith) Bumphrey. Jerry attended Kewanee Schools, graduating with the class of 1974.
Jerry is survived by one son, Clayton “Lil Bump” Bumphrey, Kewanee; siblings, Ron (Connie) Bumphrey, Connie (Harold) Brants, and Mindy Bumphrey; a god daughter, Tiffany Simmons; sister-in-law, Barb Bumphrey, Indiana; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Noah Johnathon Bumphrey; and four brothers, Michael, Toby, Dennis and Robert Bumphrey.
Jerry served in the National Guard. He worked at Kewanee Boiler until they closed. He then worked for Lucky Trucking, after retiring from Lucky, he worked for River Valley, Galva as a truck driver during the harvest season.
He was a member of the Midwest Pool League and the Buzzard Motorcycle Club. He won spring and summer with the Heartland Alternate Shot (Pool) League in 1997. Jerry loved going to Cubs games with Clayton and watching dirt racing, especially following Ray Bollinger. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and eating at Lisa’s Place in Atkinson.
A Celebration of Life will be from 2:00 - 4:00 pm, Saturday, November 11, 2023, at the American Legion, Kewanee (lower level). As Jerry gave in life, he gave as a tissue donor in death.
