Gladys Marie (Calvert) Durnil

Gladys Marie (Calvert) Durnil, 98, of Kewanee, died Monday, November 1, 2021, at her home. Gladys was born October 26, 1923, in Bosworth, Missouri, the daughter of Arthur K. and Anna E. (Calvert) Calvert. She graduated from Bosworth High School. Gladys married William Henderson Durnil on July 12, 1942, in Kahoka, Missouri; he preceded her in death on January 5, 1989.Gladys is survived by her children, Betty Dison, Kewanee, Michael Durnil, Kewanee; grandchildren, Ann (Rick) VanWassenhove, Annawan, Lynn (Todd) Yarger, Kewanee, Michael Huggins, Kewanee, Elaina (Daniel) Gibbs, Plainfield, IN, Kimberley Huggins, Kewanee, Michael W. Durnil, Kewanee; great grandchildren, Zachary (Kelly), Katelyn, and Nicholas VanWassenhove, Paige (Cameron) Panicucci, Jacob (Grace) Yarger, Michael, William, Summerlynn, Matthew and Adaline Huggins, Haylea, Korbin, and Keegan Gibbs, and Chase Huggins; and two great-great grandchildren, Dison VanWassenhove and Blake Panicucci. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Judy Huggins; daughter-in-law, Carol Durnil; son-in-law, Don Dison; great grandson, Austin Huggins; siblings, Arthur, Jewell, Thomas, and Betty Jo Calvert; and half siblings, Myrtle, Mitchell, Joe, Clyde, John, and William Calvert. Gladys worked at K-Mart, Walworth, Boss Factory, Allen's Dairy, Jacobson Bakery, and Van Olst Bakery. She was a member of the First Christian Church and the National DAR. She enjoyed gardening and cooking. She sewed a lot of the daughters' dresses. Gladys loved spending time with her family; especially playing checkers with the grandchildren, which she very seldom lost.Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 pm, Thursday, November 4, 2021, at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am, Friday, November 5, 2021, at the funeral home. Pastor John Reside will officiate. Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
