Gregg A. Larson, 66, of Kewanee, passed away Sunday, February 8, 2026, surrounded by family. Gregg was born on November 26, 1959, in Kewanee, the son of Lawrence F. and Olga (Haddad) Larson. Gregg graduated from Kewanee High School with the class of 1977. He attended Black Hawk College and Southern Illinois University for marketing and psychology. Gregg was the chairman of the Carbondale Clean Up Committee and was also VP of the Maverick Party and Student Government. Gregg married Mary Gillis on April 20, 1985, in Houston, Texas; they later divorced but remained the best of friends.
Gregg is survived by three children, Hilary Larson (Brandon Gralheer), Houston, TX, Jerod (Sarah) Larson, Alpha, Brenna Larson (Ryan Pearson), Dallas, TX; grandson, Oliver Larson, “Chairman of the Board”; sister, Teri (Mats) Jonmarker, Kewanee; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his best friend, Algird “Allie” Kapacinskas.
Gregg worked at Foley’s Department Store in Houston from 1982 to 1996 and then in Tulsa from 1996 until 2003. Being outdoors, fishing and golfing were some of his joys in life. He also enjoyed going to concerts; Bob Dylan, The Grateful Dead, and the blues were some of his favorites. Gregg was always wanting to please others, especially through his grilling and cooking skills; his specialties were ribs, daddy burgers, steaks, and ham. Gregg had a way of talking to people and making them feel special; he could talk to anyone. He was quick witted and animated. Gregg enjoyed spending time with his family; especially his children and grandson.
A Rosary Service will be at 4:00 pm, Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Golnick-Schueneman Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4:30 – 7:30 pm, Thursday, February 12, 2026, at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am, Friday, February 13, 2026, at Saint John Paul II Parish. Father Narcis Katambe will be officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
