Harry Nelson, Sr. Obituary

Harry William Nelson Sr, 89, of Hartselle AL, died on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at his home in Hartselle, AL. He was born on October 19, 1930 in Patterson, New Jersey. The son of Walter and Dorothy (Hall) Nelson. He married Myrtle Smith on March 18, 1951in Kewanee IL; she preceded him in death. He then married Mabeline Hopkins on June 11, 2002 in Cambridge IL; she also preceded him in death.Harry is survived by his son, Harry William (Tracey) Nelson Jr. of Hartselle Alabama; siblings, Bernice Bound of Prophetstown IL, Susanne Mendez of Kewanee IL, Pearl (Sheila) Nelson of Moline IL; several wonderful grandchildren and great grandchildren and numerous of nieces and nephews. Harry was preceded in death by his parents; his two daughters, Zena Watts and Loretta Empson; four brothers, Marion Nelson, Jack Nelson, Fred Nelson and Francis Nelson.Harry served in the US Army during the Korean war. He was honorably discharged in February 1960. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and recently just received a patch and pin for being a member for 60 years which he was so proud of. Harry worked at John Deere in East Moline IL for 28 Years. He loved spending time with his family. He also had a love for country music and Cadillac's and he also loved Loretta Lynn.Graveside services will be held at 1:30 pm, Monday, October 5, 2020 at Pleasant View Cemetery.
