Jerry L. Miller, 85, of Kewanee, IL, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 12:34am at Allure Care Center in Moline, Illinois with his two sons at his side. Jerry was born October 22, 1938 in Kewanee, IL, to William “Bud” Otis Miller and Elizabeth Marie (Bradley) Miller. Jerry married Reva Jeanette Bigham, June 8, 1958, in Neponset, IL. Jeanette preceded Jerry in death on November 24, 2011.
Surviving Jerry are his two sons, John Michael Miller, of Kewanee, IL and Jeffrey Lawrence Miller, of San Francisco, CA; two grandchildren, Anthony (Elizabeth) Miller of Pingree Grove, IL and Samantha Miller of Bettendorf, IA; two great-grandchildren, Huxley and Mason; a brother, Richard Miller of West Branch, IA. Also surviving is Toshiro Takino, of Kyoto Japan, a foreign exchange student who lived with the family for 13 months and who was viewed as a third son to Jerry and Jeanette and a brother to John and Jeffrey. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Jeanine Whited and a brother, William “Bill” Miller.
Jerry graduated from Kewanee High School and soon after began working for Case International Harvester and later for Kewanee Boiler Corporation. Jerry would go on to have a highly successful career of more than 30 years with Country Companies Insurance where he worked as both an agent in Henry County, IL, a manager in Knox County, IL and again as an agent in Stark, Co, IL, before retiring in 2003. Jerry was a member of the Church of Peace where he was active in its Peacemakers Group and served nearly 10 years as the Church Board President. Jerry was a long-time member of the Midland Country Club and served a term as the clubs Board President. Jerry was a member of the Kewanee Masonic Lodge #159 and served on the Henry County Board. Jerry was an avid fisherman and made many trips to Canada with his fishing buddies. Jerry had a love for the game of golf and could always be seen watching his grandkids play sports.
Visitation will be from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm, with a Masonic Service following, Saturday, November 4, 2023, at the Church of Peace. Funeral service will be at 1:00 pm following the visitation, also at the church. Interment will be in the Garden of Peace Cemetery at the Church of Peace, Kewanee, IL.
