John M. Beckman, 83, of Kewanee, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. John was born November 10, 1940, in Wyanet, the son of Clarence and Esther (Nicholson) Beckman. John graduated from Wyanet High School with the class of 1958. John married Emily Burwell on July 10, 1966, in Kewanee; they were married 57 years. After her passing on January 16, 2024, they are now reunited.
John worked for Kewanee Boiler Shop in his earlier years and retired as a mail carrier after 25+ years. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1958 to 1961. John enjoyed trains, collecting stamps, and antiquing. You could always find John piddling in the yard or the garage. He was a fan of Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley. He enjoyed traveling to Branson with Emily. He was a member of VFW Post #8078, Kewanee.
John is survived by one son, John (Tami) Beckman, Kewanee; two granddaughters, Brittani (Mitch) Brewer, Pekin, Tia (Mandy) Thompson-Huber, Kewanee; and two great grandchildren, Whrenli and Lhetti. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, Clarence “Sam” Beckman; and five sisters, Frances Ulrich, Mary Wells, Norma Beckman, Judy Erickson, and Phyllis Draminski.
Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 pm, Monday, July 1, 2024, at Golnick-Schueneman Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am, Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at the funeral home. Pastor Justin Rumley will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Military Rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council.
