John L. Smith, 71, of Atkinson, formerly of Sheffield, died Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at Aperion Care Home, Princeton. John was born November 29, 1949 in Peoria, Illinois, the son of Lawrence Smith and Margaret Bowman. John is survived by his daughter, Sherry (Chris) Stoner, Kewanee; grandchildren, Gavyn Cowling, Neenah Cowling and Beatrice Smith, all of Kewanee. He was preceded in death by his parents. John served in the Air Force. He worked as a truck driver for Kaplan Trucking and Lilley Trucking. He enjoyed working on and driving semis. He loved listening to music and watching TV. He enjoyed spending time with Sherry and his grandchildren. John also enjoyed playing euchre. Graveside services will be at 10:00 am, Friday, August 20, 2021 at Sheffield Cemetery.
