Joyce O'Connor

Joyce O'Connor, 92, of St Petersburg, Florida, formerly of Kewanee, Illinois died Wednesday February 9, 2022. Joyce was born May 27, 1929 in Flora, IL. She graduated from Kewanee High School with the class of 1947 and then proceeded to earn a degree and her teaching credential at the University of Illinois. Joyce married Martin R. "Marty" O'Connor on June 28, 1952 in St. Charles, IL. He preceded her in death on May 16, 2001.Joyce is survived by her five children, Marty (Judy) O'Connor, Tierra Verde, FL; Candy O'Connor-Banks, St Petersburgh, FL.; Michael (Sheryl) O'Connor, Ft Mill, South Carolina; Tim O'Connor, St Petersburg, FL.; and Kevin O'Connor, Huntersville, North Carolina. Joyce also had a daughter Susan who died at birth. In addition to her five children, Joyce leaves behind one brother, Charley (Kathy) Renfro, 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.Joyce will always be recognized as a loving and dedicated mother, wife and caregiver to her husband who was stricken with polio. She was an exemplary and awarded volunteer for her 20 years as a Guardian Ad Litem for the city of Fort Myers, FL. She was a member of St John Vianney Catholic Church in St Petersburg. Her interests were tennis and watching sports, especially Notre Dame football, with her boisterous family. Funeral services will be held in Kewanee, IL. on April 22, 2022. Visiting hours will be from 9:30 am to 10:45 am at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, 219 E. 2nd St., Kewanee, IL. 61443. A Memorial Mass at Saint John Paul II Catholic Church will follow at 11:00 am; burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Father Johndamaseni Zilimu will officiate.
