Katelyn Murphy

Katelyn Murphy, 31, of Kewanee, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2025, at OSF St. Luke’s Medical Center, Kewanee. Katelyn was born March 31, 1994, in Kewanee, the daughter of Michael Murphy and Donetta (Young) Mercer. Katelyn attended Kewanee High School, graduating with the class of 2012. She attended Black Hawk College and obtained a CNA certificate.

Katelyn is survived by her mother, Donetta; boyfriend, Thomas A. Smith; five children, AlecZander Jacob Michael Smith, LillyAnn Kay Renee Smith, Avery Elaine Smith, Olivia Lee Smith; Adrianna Marie Smith; two brothers, Jack Young, Evan Murphy-Boswell; maternal grandparents, Peggy Ann Young and Vernon Crain, step grandmother, Georgi Young; Thomas’ mom, Kimberly Smith; aunts and uncles, Michele Young (Frank Thomas), Raymond (Ana) Young, Donna Schwigen, Don (Dawn) Peed, Gary Murphy, and a special uncle, Jack Peed; numerous cousins; and special friend, Matthew James Daulton. She was preceded in death by her father, Michael Murphy; maternal grandfather, Raymond Young; and Thomas’ dad, Thomas Arthur Smith.

Katelyn worked as a CNA at Kewanee Care, Preferred Home Healthcare and Hospice, and at Peggy Young’s Board and Care Home. Katelyn enjoyed basking in the sunshine. She found solace in the rhythm of her favorite songs and the melodies that filled her home. Her passion for music was only rivaled by her talent for drawing and coloring. Above all, Katelyn's greatest joy was the time she spent with her kids. Each moment was cherished, each memory a treasure. Her legacy of love, kindness, and warmth will live on through them.

Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 pm, Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Golnick-Schueneman Funeral Home. A eulogy and a time of sharing will be at 7:00 pm, Thursday. A Celebration of Life will be from 5:00 - 8:00 pm, Friday, May 23, 2025, at the American Legion. Memorials may be made to the Henry County Humane Society.
