Kay N. Smith

Kay N. Smith, 86, of Kewanee, died Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Toulon Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. Kay was born March 25, 1934 in Kewanee, the daughter of Ray and Leona (Gutschlag) Williams. Kay attended Black Hawk College, earning an Associates Degree in Administrative Assisting. She married Bernard Q. Smith on June 22, 1952 in Kewanee; he preceded her in death on July 8, 2005. She is survived by son, Donald W. (Mary) Smith, Kewanee; daughter, Virginia (Paul) Wurster, Des Plaines, IL; three grandchildren, Shannon, Eric, Justin; five great grandchildren, Caitlyn, Nadia, Camryn, Caleb, Eric Brian Jr.; one great great grandchildren, Maxwell Christian Smith; devoted friends, Jacki, Doug, Greg, and Sarah Wyman; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.While attending Black Hawk College she worked as the secretary to the Dean. In her younger years she worked at Goods Furniture, where she was a Bookkeeper and made draperies. She worked for Lacky Monuments until her health forced her to stop. Kay was very creative and loved art; she enjoyed painting and sketching portraits of children. She was a member of the Kewanee Art League. She was also talented in sewing, especially counted cross stitch. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with Bernard and the kids in a truck camper, having visited 40 states. Kay also enjoyed dancing and crocheting. Kay was a member of the First Baptist Church, Kewanee. Funeral Services will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home. Masks required and please observe social distancing guidelines. Dr. David Pendergrass will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of the service on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Kewanee Animal Shelter.
