Marcella "Marcie" M. Smith

Marcella "Marcie" M. Smith, 90, formerly of Kewanee, died Sunday, February 7, 2021 at Alexian Brothers Hospice Residence, Elk Grove Village, IL. Marcie was born July 28, 1930 in Chicago, the daughter of Harold R. and Pauline (Wilsey) Walker. She graduated from Kewanee High School with the class of 1949. Marcie married Donald Zumber, they later divorced. She later married Richard Smith; he preceded her in death.Marcie, "Little Mom", will surely be missed by her four children, DeeDee (Doug) Whisker, San Marcos, CA, Matthew Zumber, Kewanee, Suzie Holste, Elk Grove Village, IL, and Mary (Jeffrey) McClain, Westerville, OH; six grandchildren, Darren (Liz) Whisker, Dave (Laurel) Whisker, Stephanie Holste, Scott Holste Jr., Madison McClain and Mitchell McClain; and two great grandchildren, Portia Hartson-Whisker and Dimitri Whisker. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; and two sisters, Sally Murphy and Jeanne Hauman.During her life she was a very supportive mother of all four of her kids' activities. She was a girl scout leader and a wonderful artist. For every Kewanee High School home football game, she painted the Kewanee Mighty Mite Boilermakers on a breakaway banner for the players to run through. She would always walk with our Great Dane, Daisy, to watch all the Kewanee Homecoming Parades. She enjoyed gardening, doing crafts and birdwatching. A lover of animals she once took in a stray cat, that she named Baby, that shortly after had seven kittens, she had great fun with all of them. After her children were grown, she worked for Motorola and Bullock Garages. She was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren gave her so much joy, she would light up when she could see them or their pictures.Visitation will be from 1:00 - 1:30 pm, Saturday, July 24, 2021 at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home. Memorial services will be at 1:30 pm, Saturday, July 24, 2021 at the funeral home. Deacon Martin VanMeltebeck will officiate. Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Friends of the Animals, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, or Alzheimer's Association.
