Margaret Hogeboom Obituary

Margaret “Marty” E. Hogeboom, 93, of Annawan, passed away at home on Tuesday, February 13, 2024. Visitation will be from 2:00 – 4:00 pm, Sunday, February 18, 2024, Golnick-Schueneman Funeral Home, Kewanee, IL. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Monday, February 19, 2024, at the funeral home. Pastor Terry Lancaster will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Easterseals or ProMedica Hospice.

Margaret was born May 4, 1930, in Kewanee, the daughter of Warren “Skinny” E. and Margaret J. (Keeling) Blake. She was raised and educated in Kewanee, she graduated from Kewanee High School in 1948; she was in the top 10% of her class. While in school, she joined the Girls Drum and Bugle Corp and played the Alto Bugle. After High School she took a summer course in typing at Bradley University in Peoria. In 1973 – 1974, and 1982 – 1986 she took courses at BHE and received a word information processing certificate and office assistant certificate; along with receiving certificates in typing, accounting, and office machines. She was listed on the Dean’s List in 1984- 1985 and the President’s List in 1983 and 1986.

She worked at the Walworth Office in Kewanee from 1948 to 1950 in the time keeping office. There she met the love of her life, Donald G. Hogeboom. They were married on June 19, 1950, in Kewanee; he preceded her in death on August 26, 2018, at the age of 90. Early in their marriage they moved to Annawan, where they raised their three children and resided until her passing. She also worked at the Farmer’s Table in Annawan from 1973-74 and then worked at Shalco Systems in Kewanee in inventory control from 1974-1980 until her retirement.

During her early years she was a member of the Annawan Jr. Women’s Club where she served as President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. Also was a chairman of the Cancer Drive in Annawan. She was a member of the Fairview EUB Church, which is now called Fairview United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School for 5 years. She served as a Secretary for the WSWS Club at the church. She was an accomplished artist and painted posters for their many fundraisers.

She enjoyed sewing, baking, traveling, and spending time at their cabin on the Rock River.

Survivors include sons, Don (Marjorie) Hogeboom, Dunlap; Bill Hogeboom, Hooppole; daughter, Jeanne (John) Zabloudil, Geneseo; sisters, Carolyn Reed, Kewanee, Betty (Dan) Nosalik-Rodgers, Mississippi; brother, John (Carole) Blake, Kewanee; six grandsons, Wesley (Molly) Hogeboom, Peoria, Lucas (Lacey) Hogeboom, Prophetstown, Logan Hogeboom, Prophetstown, Ryan (Alicia Harmon) Carlson, Annawan, Brandon (Adrianne) Carlson, Geneseo, Aaron Carlson, Coal Valley; one granddaughter, Lauren (Matt) Lenz, Peoria; eleven great grandsons; two great granddaughters; a great-grandchild on the way; two step great granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sister and brother-in-law, Jean (Joe) Wittmeyer; brother and sister-in-law, Everette (Delores “Dodie”) Blake; brothers-in-law, Herbert Reed and Frank Nosalik.
