Marilyn Moss Obituary

Marilyn J. Moss, 93, of Kewanee, passed away at 12:00 am, Saturday, September 3, 2022. Marilyn was born February 3, 1929, in Kewanee to Charles and Helen Rosenow Wolf. She married her childhood friend and later sweetheart, Dean L. Moss on October 1, 1950 in Kewanee. Dean passed away June 12, 2020, a few months before they would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.

Marilyn is survived by six of their seven children, Pam Tarlton, Plano, TX, Cyndi Ross, Plano, TX, Debbie (Peter) Old, Melbourne, Australia, Greg (Vickie) Moss, Ozark, MO, Jill (Irv) Kelman, Kewanee, IL, Penny Adkison, Kewanee, IL; daughter-in-law, Laura Moss, Lenoir City, TN; grandchildren, Jason (Kristen) Adkison, Joshua Adkison (Amber Waymoth), Cortney (Jimmy) Brimer, Trevor Moss, Krystal (Josh) McRae, Erin Metcalf; step granddaughters and their amazing families, Hollie (Russ) Yanaga, Wendy Wall, Cristi (Charlie) Brown; great grandchildren, Kelsi Adkison, Regan Adkison, Collyn Brimer, Kaden DeLine, Korbyn Brimer, Jaynie McRae, Anthony Metcalf; sister, Carla Morey; sisters-in-law, Diane Wolf, Carol Rader; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gary and Sue Moss; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; father and mother-in-law; husband; son, Daryl; brothers, Don and Ken Wolf; sons-in-law, Steve Ross, Rob Adkison; brother-in-law, Arlo Morey; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Wilfred and Dolores Moss.

Marilyn graduated in 1947 from Wethersfield High School. Her husband and all seven children were also WHS graduates. Marilyn worked at JC Penney, the Credit Bureau and Kewanee Public Service, but her full-time job was being a mom, where the kids tested her to her limits! She did everything for her children. Our friends and neighborhood children also considered her “mom” as she provided meals, love, support, taxi service, and discipline to all.

Some of the awesome things Marilyn got to do were; hunting and fishing (where she learned how to swim) with her father, full-time parent while Dean (Captain Moss) was fighting the war in Korea, hug a little piglet, drive a Mustang convertible, learned to try different and new foods (because of Irv), traveled to Australia to stay with Debbie and Peter, rode a camel, went to Disney World with Dean, and spent quality time with family and friends.

Marilyn was a member of St. Peter’s Evangelical United Church of Christ, Allendale Conservation Club, and the YMCA. She enjoyed dancing with Dean, where they won a contest waltzing to “The Waltz You Saved for Me”, playing Bridge and cards, camping, baking for an army, going to water aerobics, and roller skating with family. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Courtyard Village for taking such good care of Marilyn and the many friends she had there.

Visitation will be from 9:30 – 11:30 am, Thursday, September 15, 2022, at Golnick-Schueneman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11:30 am, following the visitation. Martin VanMeltebeck will officiate.

Due to the fact that Dean passed away in 2020 during COVID and we were not able to have a service for him, therefore we will be having a service for both Marilyn and Dean. Due to the fact that COVID is still active, the family will be wearing masks.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kewanee Humane Society or the American Diabetes Society. Please leave an online condolence for Marilyn and Dean’s family at www.golnickschuenemanfh.com. Marilyn missed Dean so much, they are back together again with Daryl and the rest of our loved ones. Until we are all together again, we love and miss you so much. Thank you for being such a great mom.
