Marlo Morrison Obituary

Marlo G. Morrison, 97, of Kewanee, left this world to be reunited with her husband and loved ones on Monday, January 13, 2025. Marlo, daughter of Alex and Effie (Sall) Charleton, was born on July 6, 1927, in Galva, IL.

She attended Sheffield Schools, where she was a cheerleader and baton twirler, she graduated with the class of 1945. Marlo married Melvin “Cookie” L. Morrison on August 13,1949, at the Cambridge Baptist Church; he preceded her in death on December 21, 1997.

Marlo is survived by one daughter, Glenna Scott (Rick Nanninga), Kewanee; eleven grandchildren, Shelli Sauer, Carrie (Kurt) Gustafson, Angie Giles, Will (Jill) Bumphrey, Shane Scott, Luke Scott, Josh DeBord, Mike Huffman, David Huffman, Jeff Huffman and Tony Huffman; 22 great-grandchildren, Alesia (Daniel) Juarez, Cruz (Ashlyn) Juarez, Carson Sauer, Landon Sauer, Laman Sauer, Jr., Lana Scott, Mary Scott, Alyssa (Miles) Scott, Alex (Jon) Lindbaum, Courtlin Gustafson, Jake Giles, Jessie (Andrew) Taylor, Briar, Bodhi, and Elijah Scott, Carly, Evan, and McKenna Bumphrey, Mary DeBord, Rasheed and Rashaun (Grace) DeBord, Brynn; and numerous great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three daughters, Mary “Lainey” Huffman, Sherry Scott, Linda DeBord; and a grandson, Wyatt Scott.

Marlo was a phenomenal mother, grandmother, wife and person. She was known as “Magic” Marlo not simply because she could magically make everything better, but because she had a 6th sense. She always knew when someone close to her was hurt or if they were celebrating good news before they could tell her. Marlo was a kind, loving woman who enjoyed every moment of life, especially when surrounded by her loved ones. She nursed her kids to health when sick, played cards and other games, cooked fabulous dinners, and traveled to Florida and multiple destinations during motherhood. She enjoyed dancing, especially with “Cookie”. She even took the family for square dancing lessons.

Besides being a homemaker, she worked at Piggly Wiggly and General Electric during her younger years. Throughout most of her adult life, she managed Mel-Mar Rentals. Marlo was an avid boater and swimmer. She loved vacationing and hanging out with her husband.  She enjoyed riding the motorcycle with “Cookie”. Marlo had a lot of spunk and humor too. Beware of the extremely arched eyebrow though…if you ever saw it you knew you were in trouble.  Marlo loved taking pictures, listening to Elvis, and dressing to the nines. She never missed her weekly appointment to get her hair done, ensuring that she always looked her best. Marlo always looked like she just left the runway due to her beauty (inside and out), flawless attire, and stunning jewelry. She was made for Hollywood. Marlo was a lifelong Cubs fan, who cheered them on win or lose. If she was not at Wrigley, she threw a “Cubs” party in her living room during every game!
