Martin Norton Obituary

Martin Lee Norton, age 73 of Naples, FL was born May 21, 1951, in Kewanee, IL, passed away on September 2, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his extended family.

Marty graduated from Neponset High School in Illinois in 1969. On October 19, 1994, he married Tamara (née Weiland) Norton, with whom he shared nearly 30 years of marriage. Marty was a passionate golfer, a lifelong Cubs fan, and a talented musician. He enjoyed a successful career as an entrepreneur and had a passion for puzzles. His wardrobe was as vibrant as his personality. Marty had a deep love for sales, boating, The Beatles, Stephen King and J.R.R. Tolkien novels, Kevin Smith movies, and was known for his prowess at Monopoly.

An avid traveler, Marty explored Africa, China, Europe, and the tropics, and he loved spending winters in Florida and summers in Illinois. He was a member of the Collinsville Chamber of Commerce, Optimist Club, and a Rotarian.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Norton (née Jones), and his adoptive father, Clarence Norton.

He is survived by his father, Benny Peterson. Marty is also survived by his three sons: Mason A. (Michele) Norton of Collinsville, IL; Justin M. (Denise) Norton of Maryville, IL; Jarid R. (Shannon) Norton of Queen Creek, AZ; his daughter, Miranda L. (Skip) DeMaso of LaSalle, IL; and Thomas R. (Tara) Williams of Maryville, IL. He leaves behind 12 grandchildren: Kaiyla, Kail, Alaynah, Elijah, Andrew, Olivia, Isaiah, Addison, Ayden, Peyton, Layla, and Joseph, as well as 3 great-grandchildren: Nevaeh, Maliyah, Hunter, and 2 beloved cats, Mya Mae and Frankie Bleu. Marty is also survived by Nancy (née Bartman) Jenks, his former wife and the mother of his four children.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 8 from 2:00pm-5:00pm, at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center St., Maryville, IL 62062.

A funeral mass will take place on Monday, September 9 at 11:30 am. Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 200 N. Lange, Maryville, IL 62062, with Father Rob Johnson as celebrant. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon, IL 62034.
