Wyoming – Mary Mardell (Babcock) Mummert, 92, of Wyoming, passed away at 10:50 p.m. Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Arcadia Care of Kewanee. Mary was born on September 14, 1933, in Essex Township, the daughter of Murray Louis and Bertha Leona (Beall) Babcock. She married Floyd Glen Mummert Sr. on August 28, 1953, at the United Methodist Church in Toulon; he preceded her in death on July 31, 1987.
Surviving is one son, Jim (Sally) Mummert of Wyoming; one daughter, Beth (Gordon) Sutton of Wyoming; 10 grandchildren, David (Debbie) Jackson, Doug Jackson, Mark Jackson, Chris (Trudy) Mummert, Gregg Sutton, Jennifer (Rod) Smith, Janet (Ron) Salisbury, Kyle (Lynzi) Mummert, Jim (Diane) Sutton, and Evan Mummert; 17 great-grandchildren, Elayna, Tony (Brittanae), James, Brady (Kylie), Brendan (Jen), Brittany (Dylan), Kylie (Colby), Kimberly (Charley), Katelynn, RJ, Elizabeth, Mackenzie, Makayla, McKenna, Addison, Hayden, and Kahla; 24 great-great-grandchildren, Grayson, Mylow, Kymber, Zarek, Damien, Sinthia, Ryland, Peyton, Kinsley, Kyra, Kamryn, Daniel, Elias, Khyree, Drake, Paris, Milan, Lunden, Josiah, Abrielle, Purpose, Serenity, Daniel, and Desire; one nephew, Lesley (Becky) Orwig; one niece, Carolyn (Al) Butterbaugh; and one son-in-law, Stan (Peggy) Jackson of Peoria. She was also preceded in death by two children, Patricia Jackson and Floyd “Sonny” Mummert Jr.; one sister, Betty (Dean) Orwig; and one grandson, Joshua Mummert.
Mary graduated from Wyoming High School in 1951 and worked for many years at the former Post Herold newspaper in Wyoming. She loved bowling, crocheting doilies and blankets, playing card games, attending her family’s sporting events, talking football with her grandsons, and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and a longtime member of the Wyoming United Methodist Church. Mary loved spending time with her family and absolutely adored her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Mary’s funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 9, 2026, at Haskell Funeral and Cremation Services in Wyoming. Pastor David Pyell will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. also at the funeral home. Burial will be in Wyoming Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
