Mary F. Phelps, 70, of Galva, formerly of Kewanee, died Saturday, August 6, 2022, at OSF St. Luke Medical Center. Mary was born September 25, 1951, in Viola, IL, the daughter of Herman and Hazel (Collett) Warnken. Mary attended Galva and Kewanee Schools. Mary also attended Black Hawk College for nursing. Mary married Jerry Phelps on April 12, 1974, in Kewanee; he survives.
Mary is also survived by three children, Jerry Phelps, Galva, Michael Phelps, Kewanee, Angie (Cory) Wyant, Kewanee; three grandchildren, Christopher, Abigail, and Caleb; siblings, Richard Warnken, Kewanee, Margaret (Orville) Turner, Wyoming; and 23 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Janet Brazee, Julie Brown, Helen Welch, Herman Warnken, Edward Warnken, Charles Warnken; and a granddaughter, Elizabeth.
Mary worked at Hillcrest Nursing Home, Geneseo as a CNA. She attended and volunteered at Encounter Church (Kewanee Assembly of God, Oak’s Assembly). Every Sunday morning, she would make sure there was coffee; Mary had a servant’s heart. She enjoyed crocheting prayer shawls, blankets, and scarves. Mary loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10:00 – 12:00 pm, Friday, August 12, 2022, at Encounter Church. Funeral Services will be at 12:00 pm, Friday, August 12, 2022, at Encounter Church. Pastor Stephen McGough will officiate. Burial will be in Annawan Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Encounter Church.
