Mary Sue McNaught Obituary

Mary Sue McNaught, 78 passed away unexpectedly at home in Madison, North Carolina on Friday, January 3rd, 2025. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, family member and friend to many, and will be deeply missed.

Mary Sue is survived and deeply missed by her husband, Michael McNaught of 59 years; her two sons and daughter-in-law, David McNaught (of Madison, NC), and Chris and Michelle McNaught (of High Point, NC). She will be forever cherished and remembered by her grandchildren, Daelan, Connor and Addison. Mary Sue's memory continues to live on with her sister, Priscilla Kohler (of Kewanee, IL) and her brothers, Terry Briggs (of Kewanee, IL) and Michael Briggs (of Greensboro, NC).

Mary Sue is preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Alberta Briggs (of Kewanee IL).

Mary Sue was born in Kewanee, Illinois, on March 6, 1946. After graduating from Kewanee High School in 1964, she also attended two years at Blackhawk community college. In 1965, Mary Sue wed Michael McNaught and thus began their family and a lifetime to come full of many happy adventures and wonderful memories.

In 1969, Mary Sue, Mike and a then young David moved to and lived in California for four years. It was during this time that Mary Sue enjoyed being a homemaker, while Mike worked for United Airlines; this also gave them the opportunity to travel and explore places like Europe and Hawaii. After California Mary Sue, Mike and David returned to Kewanee, IL and continue to grow and raise their family; Chris came along in 1974.

Mary Sue and Mike had several businesses in Kewanee, such as the Variety Store at 521 North Main and Mike's Auto Sales and Factory Tire Outlet. Mary Sue also worked in the cafeteria at Kewanee High School, as well as working with the special needs students until she retired.

In 2004, Mary Sue and Mike relocated to Madison, North Carolina to be closer to their sons who had already moved to NC. These next years, Mary Sue and Mike divided their time between their NC home and their place in Fl that they loved to get away to in the winter months. These years brought the gifts of three grandchildren, holidays, vacations, so much love and laughter.

She loved to play bingo, bake cookies with her grandchildren, listen to music, watch John Wayne movies, make crafts, root for the Raiders, and a million other things that made her are wonderfully special sweet, Mary Sue.

Mary Sue was all things innocent, loving and pure. She is, and will continue to be, missed by her family and friends. We will continue to carry and honor her memory through our memories and all the lovely reminders that we still have of her.
