Rex A. McCormick, Jr., 92, of Kewanee, died Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at OSF St. Luke Medical Center. Rex was born December 6, 1928, in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Rex A. and Myrtle Wilhemina (Schwab). Rex graduated from Kewanee High School with the class of 1946. He obtained a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Bradley University, graduating with the class of 1952. Rex married Wanda "Janie" Holmes on June 5, 1949, in Kewanee; she preceded him in death February 10, 2018.Rex is survived by two sons, Mark (Beth) McCormick, Colona, IL, Matt (Lori) McCormick, Maple Valley, WA; four grandchildren, Alan (Brittney) McCormick, Michelle (Kellen) Fryrear, Amy McCormick, Eric McCormick; and three great grandchildren, Hailey, Cameron, Sadie. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife and a brother, Neil.Rex served in the Army Air Corps/US Airforce, spending a year in Osaka, Japan. After graduating from Bradley University, they moved to Los Angeles, CA and he worked for North American Aviation as a mechanical engineer. Rex retired as the Vice President of Hyster in 1989. Rex started flying airplanes in high school. He served on Kewanee Airport board of directors; he was part owner of an airplane. He enjoyed radio-controlled airplanes and fishing. Rex was a member of the First Christian Church, the Masons, and the NRA, American Legion, AOPA and the Knights Templar. After retirement Rex and Wanda enjoyed traveling all over the world. Graveside services will be at 1:00 pm, Saturday, October 9, 2021, at Wethersfield Cemetery. Pastor Bob Curry will officiate. Military Rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council.
