Shirley Mae Reiff

October 15, 1925 ~ June 27, 2022 (age 96)


Shirley Mae Reiff, 96, of Kewanee, died Monday, June 27, 2022 at the Toulon Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Toulon. Shirley Mae Reiff was born October 15, 1925, the daughter of Lawrence and Anna (Fleming) Ahlgren in Kewanee, Illinois. Her parents separated when she was five years old. She was raised by her mother, Anna Ahlgren, and grandparents, Camiel and Marie Fleming, who resided in the country in Burns Township, Henry County. She married Eugene F. Reiff on October 25, 1947. Sons are Thomas (Theresa) Reiff of Bridgeview, Il. and Steven (Carol) Reiff of Toulon, Il., and step-grandson Jerry Robb of Savannah, Ga. Granddaughters are Brenda (Jim) Sullivan and Amy (Steve) O’Donnell. Grandson is Scott (Rochelle) Reiff. Great Grandchildren are Jimmy (Christa), Cameron (Hailey), and Colin (Emily Hogan) Sullivan, Madelyn and Adam Reiff, Ryan, Meagan and Jake O’Donnell; a great-great granddaughter (Sullivan) is on the way. She was preceded in death by her mother, Anna Ahlgren, and by her loving husband, Eugene. 

She attended country grade school (Whitney) and graduated from eighth grade. She attended Wethersfield High, graduated from there, enrolled in nurses training at St. Francis Hospital, Kewanee. She graduated in 1946 as a Registered Nurse and remained employed there for over 20 years. She retired from the Department of Human Resources in 1987 after 16 years.

She was a Life Member of Henry County Historical Society, she was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles and traveling with her husband.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am, Thursday, July 7, 2022 at Golnick-Schueneman Funeral Home. Pastor Andrew Christman will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Kewanee. Visitation will be one hour prior to service on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Henry County Historical Society or Henry County Humane Society.
