Shirley J. Thurwanger

Shirley J. Thurwanger, 82, of Moline, formerly of Kewanee, died Sunday, April 24, 2022, at ProMedica Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation, Moline. Shirley was born May 16, 1939, in Princeton, IL, the daughter of Cecil M. and Ethel L. (Hoadley) Anson. Shirley attended Princeton High School and graduated from Kewanee High School. Shirley married Norman Thurwanger on September 9, 1959; they later divorced.Shirley is survived by two sisters, Virginia (James) Rodell, Rock Island and Kathy Dixon, Arcadia, FL; a few nieces and nephews; and two special friends, Mary Lou McCullough and Sharolyn Thompson. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Michael; daughter, Norma; ex-husband, Norman; one brother, Cecil, Jr.; and four sisters, Donna, Marsha, Linda, and Barbara.Shirley received her CNA from Illinois Valley Community College in Oglesby, IL. She worked independently and for area nursing homes. Shirley enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing; especially sewing her kids' clothes. Shirley also enjoyed working for a caterer part time, where she was able to meet President Reagan. She was a member of the Sewing Club and Cat Club. Shirley attended Salem Lutheran Church, Moline. Visitation will be from 10:00 - 11:00 am, Thursday, May 12, 2022, at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home. Memorial Service will be at 11:00 am, Thursday, May 12, 2022, at the funeral home. Deacon Martin VanMeltebeck will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
