Stina A. (Vujakovich) Tavares

Stina A. Tavares, 87, of Kewanee, died Friday, June 16, 2023, at Woodridge Supportive Living, Geneseo. Stina was born February 14, 1936, in Kewanee, the daughter of Milan and Anna (Germanovich) Vujakovich. Stina was homecoming queen her senior year at Kewanee High School, she graduated with the class of 1955.

Stina is survived by two sons, Joseph (Kari) Tavares, Kewanee, Nick Tavares (Suzanne Nichol), Chicago; five grandchildren, Tara Hicks (Luke Hewitt), Erin Tavares, Corey (Jackie) Tavares, Casidy (Ryan) Blume, Micah (Presley) Tavares; nine great grandchildren, Jaxson, Addyson, and Kamdyn Hicks, Theo and Elliot Tavares, Oliver Blume, Emma, Cora, and Miles Tavares, and another on the way; and three siblings, Vivian Vranjes, Joan Vujakovich, Nickolas Vujakovich.

She was preceded in death by her parents; twelve siblings, two in infancy (Julika and an unnamed), Mildred Vujakovich, George Vujakovich, Lillian Manthe, Mary Vujakovich, Anna Vujakovich, Donald Vujakovich, Jeanette Ptasnik, Stella Vujakovich, Leo Vujakovich, and Rosie VanDierendonck.

Stina worked for Kewanee Boiler, Home Health Care and Good’s Furniture. Stina was a hard worker, she enjoyed cleaning and working. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, taking them shopping and out for dinner. During her younger years, she enjoyed dancing.

Visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:00 am, Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at Golnick-Schueneman Funeral Home. A private family service and burial will be at a later date in Pleasant View Cemetery.
