William "Bill" Washburn, 96, of Kewanee, died Thursday, January 13, 2022, at Hillcrest Home, Geneseo. Bill was born February 17, 1925, in Granite City, Illinois, the son of Grover and Laura (Moffet) Washburn. Bill married Christine Grench on August 18, 1945, in Toulon, IL; she preceded him in death on October 16, 1988.
Bill is survived by seven grandchildren, Bill (RaNae), Robert, Brian, David, Teresa, and Thomas Washburn, Christine Gallagher; two daughters-in-law, Kathy and Karen Washburn; eight great grandchildren; 23 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; three sons, Bill, Dave, Bob; daughter in infancy; great grandson; two brothers and one sister.
Bill served in the United States Army during WWII, he was at Normandy and Ardennes during the Battle of the Bulge. Bill worked as a yardman and in delivery for Bystry Lumber for 28 years. He was a member of the VFW. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, yardwork and gardening. He loved spending time with his family, especially his visits with the grandchildren.
Graveside services for William and Robert C. Washburn (d: 2013) will be at 10:00 am, Monday, July 18, 2022, at Pleasant View Cemetery. Pastor Jason Garcia will officiate. Military Rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council for both William and William's grandson, Robert Washburn (d: 2022). Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery.
